During the administration of Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the base salary for contributions increased by 44% in the state, placing it as the state with the second highest real wage in the country, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the governor revealed at the inauguration of the State Executive Committee of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM).
Accompanied by federal representative and secretary general of the organization, Pedro Haces Barba, the governor recognized the reelection of Patricia Sosa Castellanos as secretary general of the CATEM State Committee in Baja California, describing her as a woman of struggle who represents the state’s workers with dignity.
In her message, Marina del Pilar affirmed that CATEM represents a breath of fresh air for Mexican unionism, as it represents the entry into a modern, humanitarian, proactive, and inclusive era.
She also noted that in Baja California, work is once again valued, leaving behind the days of cheap labor. Now, as part of this new vision, decent wages and greater respect for workers are being promoted.
The president emphasized that these advances are part of the labor transformations promoted nationwide under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, including a fairer distribution of profits, pension increases, and an extended vacation period.
In her speech, Haces Barba emphasized that Baja California is experiencing a period of economic consolidation, with high levels of foreign investment, job creation, and sustained growth in foreign trade that has positioned the state as one of the country’s leading economic forces.
She emphasized that these results confirm Baja California’s strategic role for Mexico and called for strengthening a modern and democratic unionism that accompanies this growth with social justice and opportunities for all.
