Two members of Los Chapitos are arrested in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, after an attack on the National Guard.

A pair of individuals, identified by authorities as members of the Sinaloa Cartel’s Los Chapitos faction, were captured after an attack on National Guard members.

The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference, highlighted various actions carried out over the past 15 days in the state governed by Rubén Rocha Moya.

“In operations carried out in Mazatlán and Culiacán, 12 other individuals linked to different factions in conflict in the state were also arrested. Twelve long guns, five handguns, magazines, and cartridges were also seized.”

As the official spoke, the report of the events provided some details about the individuals captured. The arrests were made on September 8 and involved two incidents.

On the one hand, 10 individuals linked to the criminal group formerly led by Ismael El Mayo Zambada were arrested in Culiacán, including a minor.

Meanwhile, an armed attack against members of the National Guard was reported in Mazatlán, resulting in the capture of two of the attackers, who were carrying two long and one short firearm, along with 543 cartridges, 22 magazines, and two vehicles.

The slide presented by García Harfuch indicates that both individuals are believed to be members of Los Chapitos of the Pacific Cartel.

Likewise, the SSPC’s daily report records the actions carried out on September 8. The report includes the 10 individuals captured in the capital of Sinaloa and the other two detained in Mazatlán.

“GN members arrested two men, seizing two long guns, one handgun, 22 magazines, 543 cartridges, and two vehicles,” it reads.

The names of none of the 12 individuals arrested in Sinaloa were revealed.

Arrest of Leonel “N” Highlighted

During the report presented by the Secretary of Security, the arrest of Leonel “N” and seven other women accused of an attack on security agents in Culiacán was also confirmed.

The case the official is referring to was reported by the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSP) on September 7. Eight rifles, tactical vests, and four vehicles were seized.

One of those arrested is “Leonel “N,” who is linked to a criminal group, according to Harfuch. Local media reports indicate that this individual may be linked to Los Chapitos.
