A project initiative will seek the creation of a State Care System in Baja California Sur, which addresses the situation faced by thousands of citizens in the state; the initiative was sent to committees.
The goal is to ensure universal, progressive, and equitable access to quality services, recognizing and redistributing unpaid care work.
It also seeks to promote social and gender co-responsibility, laying the foundation for a coordinated public policy, benefiting minors.
If the initiative is approved, there will be quality daycare centers and nursing homes in Baja California Sur, supporting people with disabilities and older adults who will receive specialized care.
Meanwhile, working families will be able to better balance their work life with their caregiving responsibilities, especially women, who can free up time to pursue life projects.
“Baja California Sur faces a situation in which tens of thousands of children, seniors, and people with disabilities need care, and this care falls largely on families, without any support from the State,” she argued.
Finally, the Baja California Sur legislator explained that, in addition to stress and overexertion, caregiving reproduces gender inequality, given that women are the ones who interrupt or limit their work life, their rest, and their time to assume responsibilities. The initiative was referred to the Constitutional Affairs and Justice Committee.
