Gómez Palacio’s municipal government advances in consolidating security

The municipal government of Gómez Palacio has made progress in strengthening security, one of its priorities, with the increase in the number of Mexican Army and National Guard personnel. Mayor Betzabé Martínez Arango stated that a peaceful and tranquil environment is essential to foster economic development and generate decent living conditions for the municipality’s residents.

As a reflection of these actions, Gómez Palacio is now one of the 12 priority municipalities for the National Security System. The mayor attributed this achievement to a meeting she held prior to her term with Mexico’s Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, and to direct dialogue with the Mexican government.

In this context, the Mexican Army forces in the town increased from 160 to 300 troops, while the National Guard strengthened its presence, increasing from 60 to 90. Martínez Arango noted that this strengthening of federal forces has been achieved gradually and in a coordinated manner.

At the same time, the municipal administration continues its efforts to strengthen the local police force. Trust-building mechanisms are being implemented, and the work of commanders and officers is being reviewed to ensure their actions adhere to guidelines against corruption and abuse of citizens.

A recent demonstration of federal support was the participation of 1,100 Army and National Guard members in the Independence Day parade. According to the mayor, this deployment reaffirms the federal government’s commitment, under the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, to safeguard the well-being and peace of the people of Gómez Palacio.
