The Zacatecas state magistrates and judges elected on June 1 are now in office after being sworn in before the Legislature.
Justice Carlos Villegas Márquez, president of the Superior Court of Justice of the State of Zacatecas (TSJEZ), called for “dedication, sensitivity, and absolute commitment to society” from the new judges, as “justice is the foundation of social peace.”
He added that Zacatecas society expects much from the Judiciary of Zacatecas, stating:

The solemn session of the Legislature, chaired by Representative Karla Rivera Rodríguez, was also attended by Governor David Monreal, who congratulated each new member of the Judiciary.

Representative Karla Rivera stated that the new judges and magistrates assume a great responsibility, as the Judicial Branch of Zacatecas, along with the other two branches, “maintain the balance of democratic life.”
During the session, eight new members of the TSJEZ, the three magistrates of the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal (TDJ), and 36 state judges were sworn in.
Installation of the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal in Zacatecas
Hours later, the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal (TDJ), created as part of the constitutional reform that went into effect this year, was installed.
Chief Justice José Luis Hernández Ugalde formally declared the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal established in a public session, where he emphasized that there will be no tolerance for any act of corruption in the Judiciary.
In the presence of Justices Celia Nayeli Juárez and Vania Arlette Vaquera, he stated that the TDJ, in addition to evaluating the performance of those who serve in the Zacatecas Judiciary, will receive complaints, order investigations, and apply sanctions when determining the existence of misconduct.
The three TDJ magistrates will serve six-year terms, and the presidency of the Tribunal will rotate every two years, in accordance with Article 90 Bis of the Zacatecas Constitution.
The Chambers of the Superior Court of Justice
The Plenary Session of the Superior Court of Justice of Zacatecas (TSJEZ), in the presence of the Counselor of the Judicial Administration Body, as well as the members of the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal, established the chambers of the Judicial Branch of Zacatecas as follows, based on the Organic Law of the State Judiciary:
Judge Rafael Espinoza Olague served as President of the Civil Chamber, and Judge Octavio Quintanar Sánchez and Judge José Guadalupe Hernández Pinedo served as members.
The Family Chamber was presided over by Judge Virgilio Rivera Delgadillo, and Judges Ricardo Humberto Hernández Díaz de León and Araceli Esparza Berumen served as Presidents.
The First Criminal Chamber was presided over by Judge Verónica Muñoz Robles and Judge Angélica Castañeda Sánchez.
The Second Criminal Chamber is presided over by Judge Juan Antonio Ortega Aparicio and is composed of Judges Amparo Jáuregui Durán and Oyuky Ramírez Burciaga. This Criminal Chamber will hear the Specialized Juvenile Court in Zacatecas.
