In the first nine months of 2025, Durango recorded 54 homicides, placing the state second in the nation for the lowest number of cases, according to the National Public Security Council’s Security Report, analyzed by TResearch International.
With this figure, Durango ranks 30th out of 32 in homicide incidence, maintaining its position as one of the safest states in Mexico.
The analysis indicates that, compared to 2023, the state has managed to reduce homicides by more than 50%. The government attributes this to the security strategy implemented by Esteban Villegas Villarreal.
In addition to the impact on security indicators, state government authorities assert that this reduction contributes to strengthening the perception of social peace, which creates conditions of confidence for attracting investment and economic development in the region.
