Southern BCS, a red flag for disappearances in 2025

Baja California Sur is experiencing growing concern over the increase in missing persons. According to the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO), 398 cases were reported in the state between January and September 2025, exceeding the 371 recorded during the same period the previous year.

Of that number, 148 people remain missing, while 250 have been located, although nine of them are deceased.

The municipalities of La Paz and Los Cabos have the highest incidence, becoming the main hot spots. La Paz recorded 166 cases and Los Cabos 160, representing 82% of the total reports in the state so far this year.

In contrast, the northern municipalities show a significantly lower incidence: Comondú with 40 cases, Mulegé with 19, and Loreto with 13.

The breakdown by sex indicates that men represent the majority of reports, with 254 disappearances compared to 144 women during the first nine months of 2025.

The increase compared to the same period in 2024 is evident: from 371 cases to 398, representing a rise of 7.2%. Although the difference may seem moderate, the persistence of the problem and the upswing in urban areas such as La Paz and Los Cabos are worrying.

Search groups have also noted this situation. Búsquedas San José del Cabo reported that Los Cabos has seen an upswing in cases since October of last year. Meanwhile, Búsqueda X La Paz reported an increase in disappearances during mid-2025, mainly in Los Cabos and Comondú.
