Under the theme “The Magic of Autumn,” Guanajuato’s Bicentennial Park transforms into a setting filled with light, color, and tradition with the arrival of the Pumpkin Festival.
A themed tour celebrates the spirit of autumn and the Day of the Dead through hundreds of illuminated figures and interactive spaces for the whole family.
From the first step, visitors enter a path of glowing pumpkins, where the orange and gold hues seem to light up the night. Some hang from the trees, creating the illusion of an orange sky, while others are part of monumental sculptures inspired by the film Coco, a contemporary icon of Mexican culture.
The tour can be experienced on foot or aboard a themed train that takes attendees through the different sections of the festival. Along the way, visitors can admire rotating figures playing music, giant skulls, and scenes alluding to the Day of the Dead, all wrapped in an atmosphere that combines tradition, fantasy, and photography.
Among the most popular attractions is a decorating workshop where children and adults unleash their creativity.
“The idea is for children to unleash their creativity, painting and decorating with real pumpkins. This workshop has been very well received by both children and adults,” explained Susana González, florist and workshop manager, who also owns the shop El Mono Romántico in Guanajuato City.
The family atmosphere permeates every corner. From straw windmills, giant sheds, and pumpkin monster sculptures to illuminated animals that invite you to take the perfect photo. There’s even a simulated bonfire area, designed for visitors to enjoy a safe selfie, framed by the autumn glow.
For Yolanda Medina, a visitor originally from Puebla, the tour was an unforgettable experience. “Everything is beautiful, there are lots of pumpkins, and it’s all a lot of fun. We took lots of photos,” she said, laughing with her family.
Her husband, Miguel, emphasized that the festival not only celebrates autumn, but also the cultural richness of Guanajuato: “We went in to see the municipal exhibition halls, and everything is very beautiful. The Christ the King emblem is impressive. The entire state of Guanajuato is beautiful.”
With each step, the tour offers a visual spectacle that combines art, lighting, and music, ideal for spending an afternoon with the family and capturing unique moments. The rotating figures, light displays, and musical projections turn every corner of the park into a photo-worthy space.
The Pumpkin Festival is ideal as one of the most anticipated experiences of the season in Guanajuato, an event that unites tradition, creativity, and family togetherness under the spell of autumnal magic.
