On average, seven out of 10 municipal police officers in the State of Mexico risk their lives for a monthly salary of between 5,000 and 15,000 pesos, without benefits that allow their families to access scholarships, housing, and life and health insurance, denounced Representative Eduardo Zarzosa Sánchez, after proposing that their salaries be increased based on their training, performance, and length of service.
This can be done, he emphasized, by proposing at least eight salary ranges, with the minimum remaining at the base figure set by the Secretariat of National Security.

This is based on a legislative initiative presented at a press conference this Wednesday to make reforms and additions to various provisions of the Constitution and the state’s Security Law to dignify the police career and improve the salaries of basic-level police officers.
PRI parliamentary coordinator Elías Rescala Jiménez believed the government is not interested in security.
He emphasized that, given a survey that identifies insecurity as the state’s main problem, it is necessary to put all the necessary effort into strengthening the police force and forming a united front against organized crime.
The initiative stipulates that candidates for police can have a career horizon of 25 to 30 years; they should have decent salaries and benefits, and a career with recognition and salary appreciation.
They propose eight salary ranges based on the number of years in service, with the lowest level for those who have just joined or have up to four years in service; the next lowest for four to eight years; the third for eight to 12 years; and so on. Every four years, they should have a higher income level, starting from age 28 and up.
