According to the latest reports from the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE), Baja California Sur has gone 17 days without any homicides in high-impact incidents, such as shootings. This comes after approximately 70 murders were recorded throughout the state over the past four months.
State Governor Víctor Castro Cosío spoke out on the matter, stating that the gradually returning tranquility should give citizens confidence that peace is indeed possible for the entire population of Baja California Sur.
This is worth noting that Comondú and Loreto have been the epicenter of high-impact crimes, accounting for more than 65 percent of the homicides reported between June and September.
The latest case, according to the PGJE, occurred in Ciudad Constitución on September 28, when a man was shot and killed.
“We’ve been doing well here longer, and in Los Cabos as well. In Loreto and Comondú, you are indeed in charge. I’ve told you something, and I’m going to repeat something, and I hope you take it into consideration: anyone who bites, regardless of the group, hurts,” he declared.
In this context, Castro Cosío described it as despicable that there are people who make politics out of misfortune, whether in cases such as violence or natural disasters.
He also reported that this week they will hold a meeting with the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, in which he, as a representative of the Executive Branch of Baja California Sur, and the head of the General Secretariat of State Government, Saúl González Núñez, will be present.
This is with the objective of addressing results and analyzing the security strategy being implemented in the state, in which the three levels of government are collaborating.
“We don’t want to be negligent or complacent. There are still people constantly lurking in our community, whether it’s to sell drugs, to be an accomplice, or for whatever purpose,” he concluded.
In September, the governor anticipated a decrease in crime. Although this period did see a 26.7% to 56% reduction in murders compared to June, July, and August, it remains the fourth month with the highest number of intentional homicides in high-impact crimes in 2025.
