This October 15th will mark the end of an era for many Querétaro residents: the Cine Zaragoza, currently known as Cinépolis Xtreme Zaragoza, has closed its doors for good after 47 years of being one of the city’s most iconic movie theaters.
The closure, confirmed by the Cinépolis chain itself, sparked a wave of nostalgia among Querétaro residents, who for decades had flocked to the venue to enjoy premieres, family matinees, and screenings that shaped different generations.
Many users expressed their sadness on social media, recalling anecdotes and thanking the theater for being part of their history.
Located in one of the most traditional areas of the capital, the Cine Zaragoza was for years a must-visit meeting point, especially before the expansion of large movie theater complexes into shopping malls. Over time, it adapted to new technological formats, such as Xtreme theaters, but failed to sustain its operations in the face of changing consumer habits and competition.
This week, Cinépolis Zaragoza offered its final screenings, inviting the public to bid a proper farewell with a final visit to the place where thousands of Querétaro residents laughed, cried, and were moved in front of the big screen.
Its closure leaves a void in the city’s collective memory and marks the end of one of Querétaro’s most beloved cultural spaces.
