Civil organizations in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, demanded that authorities investigate the latest femicides reported in this metropolitan area, which faces common problems, from a gender perspective.
This comes after Samantha, a 25-year-old man, was murdered last Monday night by her ex-partner, who was arrested this Tuesday in Bahía de Banderas. Meanwhile, over the weekend, the murder of 23-year-old folkloric dancer Livia Betzabé, among other cases, was reported in Puerto Vallarta. In response, the civil organizations demanded that local and state agencies take “immediate, coordinated, and effective action to guarantee access to justice, truth, comprehensive reparations for the families of indirect victims of femicide, and guarantees of non-repetition.”
They demanded investigations with a gender perspective in all cases of femicide and disappearances of women in both municipalities, as well as accountability for the actions and progress of the Prosecutor’s Offices in both municipalities.
They also demanded interstate coordination between Jalisco and Nayarit to address cases that transcend territorial boundaries. Effective protection for women, adolescents, and girls in situations of violence, with shelters, hotlines, and comprehensive support, in addition to ongoing prevention and education campaigns to eradicate violence at its root.
Finally, they demanded the reactivation of the Technical Roundtables for Gender Violence Alert, with the participation of collectives, and the creation of a corresponding roundtable in Bahía de Banderas.
Among the civil organizations demanding these actions from the governments of both states are Families United Against Femicides in Puerto Vallarta, the Puerto Vallarta Women’s Collective, CLADEM, the MAM Collective, and the Women’s Network District 05 Jalisco.
