A section of the Barceló Riviera Maya hotel lobby roof collapsed this Saturday afternoon, causing no injuries, Civil Protection personnel reported.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m., when a section of the roof—approximately 15 by 40 meters—collapsed in an area that was undergoing maintenance and was closed to the public. According to reports, the collapse occurred three hours after construction workers had finished their shift, so there was no personnel on site.
Civil Protection personnel and firefighters responded to the scene to secure the area and verify the structural condition of the property. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries or damage to guests, and that the affected area will remain cordoned off while a technical review of the maintenance work is carried out.
So far, no major damage has been reported to other parts of the complex, nor have any additional risks to staff or visitors.
