The Yucatán justice system operates through power and money, as exemplified in the ongoing litigation surrounding the deaths of Ángel and Fabiola.
What is unheard of is that the State Attorney General’s Office and the Superior Court of Justice are the architects of this injustice, favoring a young man from a family of politicians and businessmen who, under the influence of alcohol, killed a young couple who were also expecting their first child.
It is clear that the justice system operates to favor Víctor Manuel R-B., so that the criminal case is extinguished, even in flagrant violation of human rights and justice.
The facts are very clear: first, the Court of Justice belatedly notified a hearing, where Judge Silvia Pamela Cetina Bautista, accused of corruption, would hold a hearing today to review the precautionary measures, that is, the prelude to his release, as Sol Yucatán exclusively revealed, and as ultimately occurred.
Attorney Jorge Méndez Mex, the victim’s uncle and appointed legal counsel, did not attend the hearing due to irresponsibility, as the hearing was dismissed by the State Attorney General’s Office.
Santos Méndez, Jorge’s brother and Ángel’s father, told Sol Yucatán that his relative had been missing for hours; on Friday around 11 p.m., they met to discuss the hearing strategy.
Their last communication was at 3 a.m.; after the hearing, and seeing that he hadn’t arrived, they began searching for him.
Hours later, he went to the Attorney General’s Office to file a missing person report; however, they learned that the Attorney General’s Office was holding him at Branch 20 of the Public Ministry, the agency specializing in combating drug trafficking.
The strange thing about the case is that they had previously denied that Méndez Mex was in custody.
His vehicle was located on the Mérida-Conkal highway, and everything seems to indicate that the officers planted drugs on him and made him disappear until the hearing concluded. This way, he couldn’t make it to the hearing and Ángel’s family would be left defenseless.
Most seriously, the Prosecutor’s Office itself is seeking to pressure Ángel’s family to accept the terms and thereby reach an agreement with the young man’s family, or to silence them so they don’t lead protests and demonstrations, as has already occurred at the beginning of the judicial process.
As Sol Yucatán has previously reported, a corruption network operates within the Prosecutor’s Office, dedicated to fabricating investigative files to extort complainants and thereby force them to settle legal disputes.
That is, they offer to close the investigation in exchange for a pardon or unfavorable arrangements.
The reality is that Yucatán is experiencing a shameful episode of injustice, with the authorities themselves protecting a young man accused of a double homicide.
Víctor Manuel’s parents are politicians, and his grandfather was a renowned construction entrepreneur.
