In observance of World Cities Day, established by the United Nations (UN) to promote interest in urbanization and address its challenges, it was announced that over 90% of the population in Baja California Sur uses the internet.

“90.4% of the population uses the internet,” stated the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), releasing data from its National Survey on the Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Households (ENDUTIH).

Other data released by the agency indicates that 80.4% of households have internet access, and 68.4% have speakers or home audio assistants. Furthermore, it was highlighted that 99.7% of households have broadband internet connections.

This year’s theme for World Cities Day is “People-Centered Smart Cities,” showcasing how technology, data, and artificial intelligence can transform urban life.

Similarly, INEGI (the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography) noted that cities have “smart traffic lights and cameras for traffic control, as well as digital applications for transportation monitoring and government procedures.”
