As part of a new brand strategy, the 28th edition of Fiesta Amigos Mazatlán was inaugurated. This event brings together key players in the North American tourism sector and consolidates the port city’s position as a world-class destination, focusing on the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) tourism sector.
“So far this administration has seen 9.5 billion pesos in investments in Mazatlán, of which 6 billion correspond to the tourism and real estate sectors,” Ali Zamudio, Mazatlán’s Secretary of Economic Development and Fisheries, told El Economista.
“All Mazatlecos have great stories to tell, and all the tourists who have incredible experiences take away memories,” hence the slogan of “A Sea of Stories,” the new brand strategy, explained Mireya Sosa Ozuna, State Secretary of Tourism, during the event’s presentation.
From January to September of this year, Mazatlán has received 3.4 million tourists, with a hotel occupancy rate of 72%. “In addition to this, we have also received 79 cruise ships in Mazatlán from January to date.” 249,552 cruise passengers with an economic impact exceeding 463 million pesos.”
Mazatlán has a hotel capacity of over 14,000 rooms with more than 190 hotels, “ranging from all-inclusive and European Plan resorts to elite all-inclusive options. We also have 11 hotels under construction, which will add 1,475 rooms.”
Among the brands are Fiesta Americana, Holiday Inn Express, Marriott, River by Hard Rock, Hampton by Hilton, and another hotel as well. “As you can see, investments continue to arrive in the port of Mazatlán. This signifies confidence, and of course, we will continue to seek further hotel investment in the destination.”
The Fiesta Amigos event is a platform to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors, with the participation of representatives from airlines, travel agencies, tour operators, and specialized media from Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Over three days, they will hold more than 1,200 meetings to finalize deals for the Mazatlán 2026 agenda, explained Carlos Berdegué, president of the Mazatlán Hotel and Business Association.
“We are 68 member companies, including hotels, tourism businesses, tour operators, establishments such as the observatory, the National Whale Museum (MUNBA), the Gran Acuario (Great Aquarium), car rental companies, hospitals, and entertainment venues.
The goal of the event is for attendees to experience the gastronomy, the joy of the people of Mazatlán, and its great attractions and new offerings; as well as the development in terms of perceived safety and coordination with government agencies, and the dynamism of the destination with increased international and national connectivity and rising occupancy rates.
Tourism contributes around 80% of the local Gross Domestic Product. “We continue to promote tourism, and we have great confidence in the federal government, as they clearly understand that tourism is an engine of investment and development. We will continue to promote tourism here in the city of Mazatlán,” said Zamudio.
