Rodrigo González Barrios, director of the Nayarit Truth Commission, has requested the extradition from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) of former Attorney General Edgar Veytia, known as “El Diablo” (The Devil), who is currently detained in the United States, where he is wanted to comply with outstanding arrest warrants against him.

According to a social media post by González Barrios last Sunday, the former Nayarit Attorney General is allegedly threatening citizens from prison.

Last week, the commission director shared an audio recording in which “El Diablo” can allegedly be heard threatening a man. This recording was used as evidence in a formal complaint.

“These are pieces of evidence that I have so far, and I obviously have the WhatsApp conversations. Yesterday I agreed to this with this person (the victim) (…) I’m already aware of the threat they’re facing and the high risk involved. Ultimately, I’m a human rights defender, and this is directly related to what we’ve been fighting for,” Rodrigo González stated in a live broadcast.

Furthermore, González Barrios asserted that Veytia is making calls from a U.S. prison using one or more Mexican area codes to threaten and extort citizens of Nayarit.

The director of the Nayarit Truth Commission also went to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) delegation in Tepic last Monday to file a complaint against Edgar Veytia, “a U.S. citizen who is threatening citizens of Nayarit.”

“I gave the cell phone number Veytia called from and the name of the ‘Devil’s Advocate.’ I should also mention that another call was made from Edgar Veytia’s cell phone 24 hours later, meaning it’s likely that countless calls were made from that phone to other Nayarit residents; the call log could be very long,” he concluded.
