Balloon Festival and Book Fair Cancelled Due to Fire at Store in Hermosillo, Sonora

The Balloon Festival, scheduled for November 7, 8, and 9, has been officially canceled due to the tragic fire at a store in downtown Hermosillo.

The Hermosillo City Council shared a statement on its social media channels announcing the cancellation as a show of solidarity with the affected families.

“We share the deep sorrow felt by our community and reiterate our commitment to respect, sensitivity, and empathy toward the people of Hermosillo during this difficult time,” the statement read.

They also indicated that they will provide psychological and emotional support to those who need it.

“The Municipal Government, through DIF Hermosillo, will continue to provide support to the victims, as well as psychological and emotional support to those who require it.”

The 2025 Sonora Book Fair has been suspended as a sign of respect for those who tragically died on November 1st in the fire at the bookstore in downtown Hermosillo, and in solidarity with the injured and their families.

This was confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, as well as the Sonora Institute of Culture, the agencies that organize these literary events annually.

The Sonora Book Fair was scheduled to take place from November 8th to 15th at the Bicentennial Plaza in Hermosillo.
