Two earthquakes of magnitude 5.3, one of 4.1, and another of 4.0 were detected by the National Seismological Service in various locations in Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz.
Four moderate earthquakes were detected by the sensors of the National Seismological Service in different states located in southern Mexico, with no injuries reported so far.
The first occurred in Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, where the federal agency detected a 4.1 magnitude earthquake at 4:35 p.m. with an epicenter 12 kilometers deep.
Almost an hour later, a possible aftershock was detected in the same Chiapas city, although with a magnitude of 4.0 but at a shallower depth, making it more perceptible.
In both cases, no injuries were reported, nor was any material damage reported, although local authorities are continuing to conduct surveys to assess any potential damage.
Two earthquakes of identical magnitude were reported just seconds apart in two towns located in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz, the agency detailed.
The first one was recorded near the town of Las Choapas, Veracruz, at 5:19:30 p.m. It had a magnitude of 5.3 and was felt by residents of the region.
Just three seconds later, an earthquake of the same magnitude was reported near Matías Romero, Oaxaca. Like the earthquake reported in Veracruz, it had an epicenter several tens of kilometers deep.
Due to the duration, strength, and distance of the tremors, it was not necessary to activate the seismic alert in Mexico City, and no injuries or significant material damage were reported.
