The Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco), the program’s main promoter, estimated through its president, Octavio de la Torre, that the economic impact will exceed 200 billion pesos (approximately US$10.725 billion), representing a 15.7% increase compared to the previous year.
This “trade festival” began 15 years ago as a joint effort between the public and private sectors to promote responsible consumption, formal business practices, and economic recovery, establishing itself as a key shopping event for Mexican families.
As part of the campaign, the government will advance the payment of Christmas bonuses to public employees so they can make their purchases during the weekend before Black Friday.
Authorities emphasized this Monday during the presentation that “El Buen Fin” (The Good Weekend) helps protect family finances, strengthen formal businesses, and generate employment and consumer confidence. “This ‘Buen Fin’ (Black Friday equivalent) encourages people to choose Mexican products. When we buy Mexican goods, everyone wins. The benefits of this initiative reach businesses, consumers, and, above all, the country,” stated Bárbara Botello, head of the national branding plan ‘Hecho en México’ (Made in Mexico).
For her part, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Nathalie Desplas Puel, indicated that Mexico will receive approximately two million tourists during the campaign, of which 153,740 will come exclusively for the sales event, reaching a hotel occupancy rate of 77.6%.
The greatest interest is registered in the north of the country, where numerous American visitors cross the border to take advantage of the pre-Christmas sales.
From the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), its head, César Iván Escalante, reported that 1,175 people, 175 service centers, and the monitoring of 334 stores will be active to “prevent abuses and guarantee the legitimacy of the promotions.”
The Association of Staffing Agencies indicated that during “Buen Fin” (Mexico’s Black Friday equivalent), temporary job applications increase between 20 and 30%.
New this year, Concanaco (the National Confederation of Chambers of Commerce) launched a website and an app that allow users to locate participating businesses and view nearby promotions, facilitating planned, secure, and transparent shopping through filters by category and location.
The organizers announced that in future editions they aim to reach 300,000 registered businesses and increase the revenue target, especially benefiting micro and small businesses, which see their sales increase by up to 35% of their inventory during “Buen Fin.”
