Durango-style adventure

A city with a northern soul and colonial-era influences in its Historic Center, Durango is emerging as a new option for travelers from Guadalajara seeking a different destination for the winter holidays.

With the goal of strengthening tourism and economic ties between the states of Durango and Jalisco, the Durango State Tourism Secretariat, headed by Elisa Haro Ruiz, brought a promotional caravan to our city to announce the new Durango-Guadalajara air route, which will be operated by Volaris.

“Just yesterday we launched the Durango-Guadalajara flight, with a duration of 50 minutes and three weekly frequencies with Volaris. We are accompanied by representatives from our tourism sector: hoteliers, restaurateurs, tour operators, and travel agencies,” noted Elisa Haro Ruiz, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Durango.

Valeria Gutiérrez Velasco, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for Durango, emphasized that “these flights and the tourists we receive will generate significant economic benefits for Durango City.” Nora Garza, from the commercial department of Volaris, emphasized that “this route is designed to serve the tourism sector, the business sector, and family travel.”

The state capital boasts a vibrant cultural scene, including the Mining Tunnel Museum (entrance on Plaza de Armas), the Francisco Villa Museum (dedicated to the revolutionary), and, of course, if you want a panoramic view, a ride on the cable car is well worth it—don’t forget your camera!

The Old West Walk is another must-see if you’re a fan of classic cowboy movies. Each show offers an immersive adventure where heroes and villains clash in a glorious and adrenaline-filled adventure. You can find it on Instagram as @paseoviejooestedgo.

A stroll through the city and its rich culture will whet your appetite, and Durango is full of flavors. Before indulging in traditional street food, we recommend visiting Wallander (Independencia 128), where they sell regional delicacies, especially dairy products. For a meal, explore delicious salads, sandwiches, bread, and other treats in their café. If you’re looking for a souvenir, they sell gift baskets and local liqueurs.

For accommodations, a traditional option is the Hotel Gobernador (Av. 20 de noviembre, no. 257). Formerly a colonial-style hacienda, it now offers luxury lodging just eight blocks from the city center. Enjoy its café, Rincón de Analco, where they serve delicious breakfasts.
