The direct flight to Tapachula from Monterrey International Airport resumed operations on November 1st, after being suspended in August, and will have three weekly frequencies (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays).
On November 3rd, the route to Acapulco returned with two weekly frequencies (Mondays and Fridays), the same day as the flight to Durango, which operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This latter destination had been suspended during the pandemic.
All three routes will be operated by A320 and A321 aircraft.
“Through these efforts to strengthen connectivity, Monterrey is consolidating its position as the most important air hub in northern Mexico, which is essential to receive the wave of tourism expected during the 2026 World Cup,” stated Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, Secretary of Tourism for Nuevo León.
This announcement comes shortly after the Department of Transportation (DOT) revoked approval for nine routes that Viva had planned to launch later this year between Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and cities in the United States.
Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Austin, Miami, and Orlando were the destinations the low-cost carrier had been touting for several months, but for now, it will have to wait to put them into service.
