The company operates under the name “Yucatán al Minuto” and is run by José Miguel González Rivero, who is allegedly a front man for former governor and current federal deputy for the Citizens’ Movement party, Ivonne Ortega Pacheco, and former state attorney general Héctor Cabrera Rivero, Ortega’s former brother-in-law and current security advisor to the State Government. These two are the true owners of the digital news outlet.
According to investigations by Sol Yucatán, Yucatán al Minuto received a contract for 22,045,452 pesos for a period of 12 months.
This translates to 12 installments of 1,837,121 pesos each, as shown on invoice number A-372, the purchase order in Sol Yucatán’s possession.
The contract was awarded by the media planning department of the marketing division, which reported to the General Directorate of Social Communication, then headed by Wendy Aguayo Romero.
Dafne López Martínez, a staunch supporter of former governor Ivonne Ortega, was involved in the transaction. She had supported Ortega’s political career and is now the government’s coordinator of advisors, one of the two key figures pulling the strings in the Morena party government.
The conflict of interest in favoring a media outlet whose owners are connected to the current administration is clear.
The services offered include placing banners on its website, promoting events, and even sending congratulatory messages, as specified in the agreement.
However, it is also being used for smear campaigns, as denounced by comedian Taco de Ojo, who accused the Joaquín Díaz Mena administration of using this outlet to discredit the government.
Other media outlets have also been favored with lucrative contracts, which allows them to enforce gag laws and bow to government mandates. We will be publishing these reports regularly to expose them and prevent them from feigning guilt.
