Regional Air Transport (TAR) will reactivate the Querétaro-Acapulco route starting December 4th, operating on Thursdays and Sundays.
The reactivation of the flight was announced this Friday at the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ).
The director of TAR Mexico, Alberto Chávez Sánchez, explained that the route will operate with a one-hour direct flight; this service aims to promote both weekend and business travel.
The route represents a connection between Guerrero and the Bajío states, added the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Simón Quiñones Orozco; in addition to this flight, the Guadalajara-Zihuatanejo and Monterrey-Acapulco routes were announced this week. The latter route resumes direct service after two years following the impact of Hurricane Otis.
The mayor of Acapulco, Abelina López Rodríguez, emphasized that the city is on the road to recovery after the damage caused by the 2023 hurricane. She noted that investments are being made both in the tourist zone and throughout the rest of the city.
“While it is true we suffered two hurricanes, perhaps one with different effects, but at the end of the day it left us with damage, (…) after having zero hotel occupancy, today we are talking about more than 16,000 rooms available in 290 hotels,” she shared.
The Secretary of Tourism for Acapulco, Noé Peralta Herrera, mentioned the potential of the new travel offerings, due to the population exchange between the two cities.
“Today we embark on a new path we have charted for ourselves. (…) We started four months ago, holding national promotional tours throughout the country, especially in states where we have a strong domestic market, such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, Querétaro, and Mexico City,” he stated.
During his remarks, the Governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, highlighted the air connectivity that will link both states. It is estimated that the flight will transport more than 9,000 passengers monthly.
Between January and September 2025, the Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) transported approximately 1,762,000 passengers, representing a 20% increase, according to the Secretary of Sustainable Development (SEDESU) of Querétaro, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero.
With these figures, the airport broke a passenger record and is on track to close the year with 2.3 million users.
“Thanks to this flight and many other airlines that are placing their trust in our state, the Querétaro airport is breaking passenger records. We’ve handled almost 20% more passengers than during the same period last year. (…) If all goes well, we’ll close the year with 2.3 million passengers. The state has 2.5 million inhabitants, so this airport is transporting almost the entire population of the state,” he explained.
Currently, the Querétaro airport operates routes to 24 national and international destinations.
