Cabin owners in the mountains are seeing a slight recovery in reservations after a difficult year due to insecurity in Sinaloa, reported Jorge Muñoz Guerrero, president of the Tourism Cluster. He emphasized that there is a positive outlook for the upcoming holiday season, as reservations are already being made.
“So far, we have 30 percent of our rooms reserved for December, and they are hoping to reach at least 70 or 80 percent occupancy,” he commented.
A recovery trend is expected to continue in this sector after reservations were disrupted by the violence in the neighboring state of Sinaloa in 2024. “It has been slow, but steady. Last December, there were zero percent reservations, and so far, we’re at 30 percent. They are expecting 70 percent overall occupancy, from both Durango and Sinaloa residents,” he stated.
He also said that there is interest from people in various states in visiting Durango. “I think people from Sinaloa are also eager to visit us, just as we are eager to visit Mazatlán, and both governments are making efforts to create ideal conditions for visiting. Furthermore, Sinaloans have investments in Durango, in cabins, so I think we’ll recover some of the occupancy we lost last year,” he added.
He also stated that promotional campaigns were conducted in Torreón, highlighting the destination and the cultural festivals that took place, although promotion in Mazatlán was not possible due to the situation surrounding the disappearance of young Emilio.
He also noted that a campaign was launched in Guadalajara to promote the destination, following the inauguration of the Durango-Guadalajara flight.
