The Yucatecan capital celebrated Mexico’s National Wine Day on October 7th with the announcement of “Sabor a Vid,” the first festival specializing in wine culture.
The event, to be held in Mérida on December 6th, will feature more than 25 national and international wineries, 15 workshops and wine pairings, at least 5 top-tier culinary experiences, live music, and much more.
“In this way, the Mayan region will bring local consumers and tourists closer to wine culture in the best atmosphere and at the best time of year to enjoy an open-air festival,” commented sommelier Ana María Arias, director of Sabor a Vid, during the festival’s presentation.
According to the 2022 Systematized Channel and Market Information (ISCAM) report on the wine and spirits segment, Mérida surpassed cities like Querétaro, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City in the growth of wine presence in bars and restaurants.
This is because the state has become one of Mexico’s most important gastronomic destinations, and good food is best enjoyed with a good wine.
Don Armando Casares, technical secretary of the Mérida City Council’s Tourism Unit, who was present at the event, added that “events like this contribute to strengthening our city’s tourism and cultural offerings, generating synergies between productive sectors and consolidating Mérida as a gastronomic, cultural, and experiential destination.”
Sabor a Vid will be organized by Vinotelia, the company behind three successful editions of “Viva el Vino,” a wine festival that has become the most important in the Bajío region. Vinotelia has attracted over 6,000 visitors, more than 200 exhibitors, and over 500 national and international wine labels, serving more than 7,000 dishes and glasses of wine.
Thanks to Vinotelia’s experience and reputation, wineries from various Mexican states have already confirmed their participation, including Aguascalientes, Baja California, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas.
International labels from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay will also be featured.
The festival will also feature the participation of beer producers and other Yucatecan products, as well as a space for some of the state’s best restaurants, offering a diverse menu including sushi, traditional cuisine, Italian, and Lebanese, among others, perfectly paired with the wines featured at the festival.
With the support of the Guanajuato Ministry of Tourism and Identity, the Yucatán Ministry of Tourism Development, and the Mérida City Council, the organizers hope this festival will become the most important in the region.
Furthermore, they envision it as the start of an annual event, becoming another attraction for the city, one that residents of Quintana Roo, Campeche, Chiapas, and Tabasco look forward to year after year, and strengthening ties between the Bajío region and the Yucatán Peninsula.
It’s worth remembering that Yucatán is connected to the Bajío region via VivaAerobús’ direct Mérida-León route, which offers weekly flights and strengthens air connectivity between the two destinations, giving residents of Yucatán and León the opportunity to travel with confidence.
The event will take place on December 6th, starting at 5:00 PM, at Casona 333, located on Calle 60, across from Paseo 60 shopping center. Tickets are now available on their website.
