By decree of the United States government under President Donald Trump, the cancellation of all routes from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to the United States went into effect on Friday, November 7, 2025, affecting dozens of people.
Airlines announced via various social media platforms that they would no longer be able to operate international flights to several destinations in the United States.
Why were the AIFA flights to the US canceled?
The decision to cancel all flights from AIFA was made by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), after accusing Mexico of violating the bilateral air transport agreement between Mexico and the US.
At the end of October of this same year, 2025, the DOT removed antitrust immunity from Mexican airlines that operated or sought to open routes to the United States from Felipe Ángeles Airport.
According to the U.S. government decree, the airline most affected by the cancellation of flights from AIFA is Viva Aerobus, which ended up suspending its routes from this airport to Austin, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, and Orlando.
On the other hand, on Friday, November 7, the cancellation of Aeroméxico flights departing from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to Houston and McAllen went into effect.
As for Volaris, it was reported that the affected routes were those departing from AIFA to Newark, New Jersey.
What should I do if my flight from AIFA to the U.S. was canceled?
It is worth mentioning that following this announcement by U.S. authorities, the affected airlines asked their passengers to monitor their emails and official communication channels to avoid disruptions.
