After an hour of kicking and hitting the metal barriers protecting the National Palace, protesters and masked individuals managed to remove them by threatening to force their way into the building, which remains protected by hundreds of security personnel.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, Mexicans marching against violence in Mexico and demanding justice for the assassination of Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan (Michoacán), managed to tear down the barriers. Police responded with repression and violence to the public’s discontent.

For half an hour, police and protesters clashed in the Zócalo, Mexico City’s main square, and, using force, attempted to approach the legislative building to break down the doors and enter for the first time to confront the government of Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.

Alongside the clashes involving tear gas, fire extinguishers, and stones, personnel from the Emergency Rescue and Medical Services Squadron (ERUM) of the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) assisted young people injured by the blows and shoves they received from the police.

Additionally, women gave water to protesters who were tear-gassed at the end of the demonstration against the Morena government.

Just minutes after tearing down the metal barriers of the National Palace, riot police began beating and repressing protesters and masked individuals.

With their shields and stones, they physically assaulted young people demonstrating in the Zócalo, who ended up injured and were assisted by medics who were also marching and by ERUM personnel.
