Authorities are investigating the discovery of a man shot to death in the municipality of Mulegé, Baja California Sur.

His body was found this Friday on a public road in the town of Guerrero Negro, in the northern municipality.

An operation was deployed in the area to begin the investigation, and the body was removed by the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO).

The State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) confirmed that the victim was a man whose body showed gunshot wounds.

The alert was raised by residents of the neighborhood, and agents from the State Criminal Investigation Agency (AEIC) went to the scene and are working to collect evidence to clarify the facts.

The agency reported that an investigation file has been opened and personnel from the High-Impact Crimes Investigation Unit are participating in the inquiries.

Several towns in the municipality of Mulegé have experienced high-impact incidents, including shootouts and murders, stemming from clashes between criminal groups.

Security officials recently reported the dismantling of a network of illegal antennas, presumably used by these criminal groups, in the mountainous region of Mulegé.

Despite this, Governor Víctor Castro Cosío reported that during the month of October, Baja California Sur ranked first nationally for the lowest incidence of intentional homicides.

He added that for several months, they have been working together to reduce the high-impact crimes that began to be recorded in the state last April.

A permanent security operation is underway in the northern part of the state, including Loreto, Comondú, and Mulegé, to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
