Cable car in Querétaro: study will take 5 months after plebiscite

The technical study for the cable car project in Querétaro will take between four and five months once the plebiscite being organized by the municipality is completed, reported Gerardo Cuanalo Santos, director of the State Mobility Agency. The official specified that the analysis will determine technical feasibility, required investment, and fares, as well as whether the system will be operated by the agency or a third party.

Cuanalo Santos explained that the study will define structural aspects of the cable car system, such as the distance between poles, the number of stations, and projected demand. “The system has technical restrictions that must be met. This will also provide us with the necessary financial information: investment amount, estimated revenue, and potential subsidies,” he detailed.

The director pointed out that integration with the public transportation system will be fundamental, regardless of who operates the cable car. “The important thing about the project is its integration with the transportation system. That is fundamental, and that is what we are working on,” he emphasized.

Regarding locations, Cuanalo Santos confirmed that the esplanade in front of Plaza del Parque is the only site with certainty for installing a station. “It’s the only place we’re sure about at this time. We’ll discover the rest as the project and the technical study progress,” he stated.

The official mentioned that mobility technology has advanced and other options such as public bicycles and light rail remain under consideration. “Querétaro is growing rapidly, and there are areas suitable for considering other types of transportation,” he concluded.
