he Peruvian government categorically ruled out any raid on the Mexican embassy in Lima to arrest Betssy Chávez, a former minister under ex-president Pedro Castillo, who recently received political asylum from the Mexican government.
The clarification was made by Peruvian Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela, who, in an interview with CNN, categorically denied any such action:
“I can tell you that no, we are not even considering it, and it will not happen in this case,” the official stated.
The granting of political asylum to Betssy Chávez has reignited tensions between Peru and Mexico, in a context marked by the severing of diplomatic relations stemming from previous frictions following the dismissal and arrest of Pedro Castillo.
