Congressman Giménez lashes out at Sheinbaum: “Mexico has not been a friend of the United States”

Republican Representative Carlos Giménez launched a scathing attack against President Claudia Sheinbaum, accusing her of failing to confront organized crime and copying the tactics of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela and Miguel Díaz-Canel in Cuba. “My message is clear: The United States cannot continue doing business as usual with a Mexican government that refuses to confront corruption and empowers narco-terrorist elements,” the Florida congressman declared.

Giménez, chairman of the House Transportation and Maritime Security Subcommittee, accused Sheinbaum of holding Mexico “hostage” to narco-terrorists and asserted that her administration “is part of the problem, not the solution.” The Cuban-American lawmaker called on Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to take a tougher stance in trade negotiations with Mexico, especially ahead of the USMCA review in 2026.

📢 The congressman also endorsed the Generation Z protests following the assassination of Mayor Carlos Manzo: “We support the peaceful demonstrations against the Sheinbaum government.” Giménez applauded Trump’s plan to impose 25% tariffs on Mexican goods until the drug and migration crisis at the border is resolved, arguing that “Mexico has been aiding the drug cartels and our enemies.”

🔴 The Republican’s statements come at a critical time when cartel-related homicides have increased by 400% in Mexico this year, according to CNN analysis. Giménez previously sent a letter on October 30 accusing the Mexican government of maintaining “deep operational ties with the Cartel of the Suns of Venezuela,” an organization designated as terrorist by the Trump administration.
