The Morelos State Security Secretariat announced increased surveillance at key border points with the states of Guerrero and Mexico, where internet access is limited.
The measure responds to an alert issued by the Canadian government advising its citizens traveling to Mexico to avoid certain areas due to high risk. Among these areas, the Canadian government cited the Zempoala Lagoons, located in the municipality of Huitzilac, which borders Mexico City to the north and the State of Mexico to the south.
Security Secretary Miguel Ángel Urrutia emphasized that the alert only addressed the Zempoala Lagoons, where internet signal is unavailable due to the terrain. However, he assured that police and military forces have been conducting patrols and surveillance operations in the area for the past month.

“Our colleagues from the National Guard have a checkpoint in La Quebradora, and vehicle theft has been halted thanks to interagency operations. Furthermore, the 24th Military Zone, along with the 22nd Military Zone of the State of Mexico, have permanent checkpoints,” he said.
The Secretary of Government, Edgar Maldonado, stated that he respects the recommendations issued by other countries for the protection of their citizens. However, he affirmed that the state of Morelos has had a very positive response as a tourist destination.
This was demonstrated in recent weeks with the Miquixtli 2025 Festival, the influx of visitors during this long weekend, and the significant presence of tourists in the state.

What the government seeks through the military and police institutions is coordinated and effective work to improve security conditions for the people of Morelos and tourists, he stated.
“The security institutions are carrying out important operations to restore peace to our state. Today we can say that Morelos is a tourist and cultural destination, as well as a safe place for visitors,” he said.
