Members of the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside (FNRCM), made up of farmers’ and transport workers’ groups, reiterated that they will carry out a massive nationwide blockade this Monday, November 24, with a complete closure of highways.

In a press conference, the leaders of the farmers’ and transport workers’ front detailed the actions they will take on Monday as part of this new round of mobilizations to demand an end to insecurity and extortion.

“We ask all citizens, all Mexicans, not to go out that day because there will be no passage,” said the members of the front, which includes the Agrarian Peasant Movement and the National Association of Transporters (ANTAC).

What are the demands of the farmers and transport workers?

Farmworkers and transport workers are asking authorities for action to stop insecurity and extortion, two of the main problems affecting these productive sectors.

They are also demanding the issuance of laminated driver’s licenses by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).

The FNRCM asserts that, to date, the government at all three levels has not addressed any of their demands, and therefore, they will escalate their actions this Monday to demand a dialogue.

What actions will the farmers and truckers take as part of the national strike?

Aware of the risks that a nationwide strike poses to their movement, the workers reiterated their intention to mobilize next Monday.

As part of the farmers-truckworkers alliance, the FNRCM will carry out the following actions on November 24:

Complete takeover and closure of highways throughout the country.
Takeover of industrial complexes.
Takeover of customs offices on the northern border.
