The state could be seriously affected this Monday, November 24, due to the nationwide blockade announced by truckers and farmers’ movements. This mobilization includes highway closures, the takeover of customs offices, and a complete work stoppage in at least 25 states across the country.
According to the National Association of Truckers (ANTAC), the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside (FNRCM), and the Agricultural and Peasant Movement (MAC), the protest will begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day. The groups warned that this time, the measures will be more severe than in previous mobilizations due to the lack of agreements after weeks of dialogue with federal authorities.
The organizers anticipate disruptions at strategic points on the federal highway network, and Baja California is among the states included in the blockade. This could impact traffic on key routes and operations at customs offices along the northern border. Citizens have been urged to avoid travel and, if possible, stay home.
Among the demands of the truckers are increased insecurity on the highways, constant robberies and extortion, as well as delays or denials in essential procedures such as obtaining license plates, driver’s licenses, and medical appointments. The farmers’ movements, for their part, are requesting the strengthening of national agriculture, the exclusion of grains from the USMCA review, the creation of a development bank exclusively for the agricultural sector, and the publication of guaranteed prices for all agricultural production.
The Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) published a list of the roads and regions where blockades are expected, including states such as Sonora, Chihuahua, Veracruz, Jalisco, Tamaulipas, and Baja California, among others. The warning aims to ensure that companies and truckers take precautions against the potential disruption to the flow of goods.
