Animal abandonment and abuse continue to rise in Cozumel, a phenomenon reflected daily on social media through reports of pets abandoned on the streets, many of them in serious health conditions. One of the most recent cases is that of a dog named “Solovino” by her rescuers. She was found by a citizen, Jimena, who rushed her to veterinarian Germán Cordero.
According to the specialist, the dog was admitted with acute intestinal pain, the result of indigestion that had left her on the brink of death. Prompt intervention was crucial in stabilizing her. Despite the severity of the case, the public response to help cover Solovino’s expenses was minimal.
The veterinary clinic decided not to charge medical fees, requesting only the cost of the medications used in her treatment. Organizations and rescuers on the island reiterate their call for empathy and responsibility towards animals, given the increase in similar cases.
