The mayor of Playa del Carmen, Estefanía Mercado, held a working meeting with the Consul General of France in Mexico, Vincent Perrin, and the Consul of France in Cancún, Emmanuel Grimbaum, to strengthen strategic alliances that will boost tourism, investment, and bilateral cooperation.

The meeting, held in the Javier Rojo Gómez Hall of the old City Hall, provided an opportunity to present the consular delegation with Playa del Carmen’s progress in security, tourism infrastructure, and urban development. The mayor emphasized that the city has become the safest municipality in Quintana Roo, a result of the historic investment in security made this year, which has resulted in a fleet of more than 500 active patrol vehicles, in addition to a helicopter.

She also emphasized that the recently inaugurated North Access Arch, a welcoming point for national and international visitors, integrates video surveillance technology with license plate readers and facial recognition, directly connected to the C4 and C5 command centers, which strengthens the monitoring and response capacity of security agencies.

“In Playa del Carmen, our priority is the safety of our residents and visitors. Every tourist should feel protected from the moment they arrive in the heart of the Riviera Maya,” stated Mayor Estefanía Mercado, accompanied by members of her cabinet.

The Mayor reiterated that security provides certainty and confidence to investors, and therefore, coordinated efforts with the State and Federal Governments will continue to position Playa del Carmen as a solid and reliable tourist destination.

During the meeting, the following topics were addressed:

  • Tourist safety and security
  • Investments with legal certainty
  • Urban mobility
  • Sustainable tourism
  • The French educational model
  • Training for the Tourist Police

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Citizen Security, Carlos Montesinos, and the Secretary of Tourism, Estefanía Hernández, who presented the consular representatives with the progress made in both areas. Also present were the Director of the Civil Registry, Luz Marinelly Carrillo; the Chief of Staff, Arturo Castro; the City Attorney, José Agustín Aguilar Méndez; and the Director of National and International Affairs, Héctor Andrade.
