President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the construction of the Chocolate Bienestar production plant in Comalcalco, Tabasco, with an investment of 80 million pesos.
During the 14th Tabasco Chocolate Festival 2025, the head of the federal government indicated that the objective of this plant is to strengthen cacao producers in the region through fair prices and the transformation of their cacao into Chocolate Bienestar.
“We are announcing the construction of this cacao processing plant so that, together with the cacao producers of Tabasco, we can work to produce ‘Chocolate for Well-being.’
“So far, we have managed to work with a significant number of cacao producers, both men and women, to collectively dry their cacao so it can be sold at a better price. It is sold in the market and also for the ‘Food for Well-being’ program.”
Before hundreds of Tabasco residents, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that support for producers will continue, despite the fact that “some envious people don’t like that we are working closely with the farmers to transform the primary product.”
María Luisa Albores, Director General of Food for Well-being, reported that this plant will be built in the municipality of Comalcalco, thanks to a two-hectare plot of land donated by the state government, and that it will have an investment of 80 million pesos.
“Its productive value will undoubtedly exceed this figure over the years and will be a…” “A new emblem of identity for the people of Tabasco,” she stated.
María Luisa Albores affirmed that the creation of this chocolate processing plant is essential to consolidate and maintain a direct and fair relationship with small-scale cacao producers for their long-term benefit.
“With this project, we will enrich the Cacao Route, which the Tabasco government has strengthened as a tourist attraction, so that everyone who visits can learn about the origin and spirit of cacao, as well as the entire production and processing necessary to obtain such rich products.”
Governor Javier May celebrated the construction of this plant, which he explained will use high-quality cacao from the agroforestry systems promoted by the Sembrando Vida (Sowing Life) program.
“This is a project that the Government of Mexico is promoting with the full support of its administration, with the support of the people, through dialogue and commitment to our land.”
“The construction of this processing plant is, without a doubt, another fulfilled commitment that demonstrates the policies promoted by the governments of the Fourth Transformation, which are comprehensive policies,” he added.
