Highway traffic jam ends in the state: Chihuahua-Delicias road reopens

The closures began on Monday, November 24, with simultaneous blockades on at least 10 sections of highway, as well as a railroad crossing. On the first day, routes such as Chihuahua–Juárez (Sacramento tollbooth), Chihuahua–Delicias (km 167), Chihuahua–Meoqui, Camargo–Delicias, Delicias–Jiménez, Jiménez–Gómez Palacio (km 229), the Namiquipa junction, and the Galeana highway were completely closed.

By Thursday, the closures had been reduced to five sections, including the Gómez Palacio–Jiménez highway (km 230), with intermittent openings every two hours; the Chihuahua–Delicias section (km 167); Ascensión–Janos (km 177); Janos–Agua Prieta (km 13); and the El Sueco–Janos access road (km 153), where only light vehicles were allowed to pass.

According to reports from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), seven of the eight remaining affected sections were reopened Friday morning, leaving only partial restrictions on Highway 45, where traffic flow was limited and under supervision.

The disruptions caused long lines, freight delays, and complications for thousands of motorists in various parts of the state. With the reopening of the Chihuahua-Delicias section, traffic is beginning to return to normal, while authorities are maintaining surveillance at highway access points to prevent further closures.

In this regard, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) reported that they will begin today removing the soil that remained on the asphalt surface, after sandbags were placed there in recent days to allow traffic to pass.
