Alejandra Cuevas Morán, who spent 528 days in prison after being accused by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) when Alejandro Gertz Manero was head of the office, criticized Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum’s defense of the former attorney general.

Through her account on the social media platform X, Cuevas refuted the federal government’s stance regarding Gertz Manero’s tenure and called the government’s attitude toward her case and torture “complicit.”

Cuevas’s reaction comes after the mayor dismissed press questions about Gertz Manero’s performance on December 1, referring to a “new stage” for the attorney general in an embassy.

“Alejandro had good results at the head of the Attorney General’s Office; we acknowledge that. One stage closes and a new one begins,” the mayor said during her Monday morning press conference.

Facing the court, Cuevas Morán rejected the federal government’s support for Alejandro Gertz Manero and the former Mexico City Attorney General, Ernestina Godoy, who is currently in charge of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

“Do you know what Alejandro Gertz Manero’s ‘job’ was? To turn the FGR into an instrument of personal revenge against my mother over family inheritances […] To violate all constitutional guarantees to satisfy a private grudge,” Cuevas accused.

Regarding Mayor Sheinbaum’s comments about a “new cycle,” Cuevas Morán lamented: “For Gertz, yes: ambassadorship, honors, impunity. And for me? […] I still haven’t received an apology. I still haven’t received reparations. I still see my torturers in her cabinet.”

In her message to the mayor, Cuevas demanded that the Mexican government acknowledge the State’s responsibility for her imprisonment; offer a public apology to her, her children, and her mother, Laura Morán; to fully redress the harm done under Inter-American standards and remove from office the officials involved, including Gertz Manero and Ernestina Godoy.

In June of this year, Alejandra Cuevas filed a complaint with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) against the Mexican State for the persecution by Alejandro Gertz Manero and various Mexican authorities, whom she holds responsible for her unjust imprisonment for more than a year.
