Families received the deeds to their new homes, located in municipalities such as Cancún and Playa del Carmen.

In less than a week, more than 500 families in Quintana Roo received the keys and deeds to their homes as part of the Housing for Well-being program, which aims to deliver 63,000 units by December 2027.

The state governor, Mara Lezama, accompanied by the head of the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit), Octavio Romero, delivered 225 apartments in Cancún, located in the Paraíso Maya and Arcos Paraíso developments.

These are in addition to the 250 homes delivered in Playa del Carmen on November 29th in a ceremony led by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.

The apartments are 60 square meters, with two bedrooms, a full bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, and a service room. These features combined have a market value of 1.2 million pesos; however, the program price is 600,000 pesos.

“This was achieved because land has been donated by all three levels of government, in addition to Infonavit purchasing the land and local authorities waiving the fees for permits. All of this helps to lower the cost of the housing,” he said.

Romero pointed out that this was largely possible due to the increase in the minimum wage in recent years.

“One of Infonavit’s main sources of income is 5 percent of workers’ salaries, so 5% of 80 pesos is not the same as 5% of 248 pesos. The consequence of this policy is a housing fund that grew from 140 billion pesos to 780 billion pesos—that is, it increased about sixfold,” he said.

He also added that in 2025, the Infonavit fund grew from this figure to more than one trillion pesos, an amount they expect to continue growing after the announcement of the 13% increase in the minimum wage for next year.
