According to an analysis by OAG, although far from the volume recorded by the Canary Islands, which dominate the list with more than 3,600 flights, Mexico stands out as one of the main long-haul destinations in the Americas.

Mexico ranks eighth among the most popular destinations this holiday season in the United Kingdom, according to an analysis by OAG.

To compile the list, the aviation analytics company ordered the data according to flight frequency (total number) between December 20, 2025, and January 4, 2026.

In this regard, Mexico had 146 flights, a figure that is very small compared to the top-ranked Canary Islands. The Spanish autonomous community had 3,684 flights, a figure that is well above even the second-place United Arab Emirates, which registered 1,006 flights. Morocco came in third with 952 flights.

Egypt (796), Cyprus (348), and Portugal (245) rank fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively; while Barbados (240) is seventh and the top destination in the Americas. Cape Verde (138) and the United States (128) round out the list.

Four Canary Islands airports are among the top 10 destinations for British travelers: Tenerife South (1,495 flights), Lanzarote (1,003 flights), Gran Canaria (628), and Fuerteventura (559).

“Overall, these figures confirm that the Canary Islands dominate Christmas holiday travel from the UK,” explains OAG in its analysis.

Manchester is the UK airport with the most flights to the Canary Islands during Christmas, with 523 flights, and London Gatwick is second with 461 flights. The Dubai terminal, with 776 flights, remains the most popular long-haul option and the second most frequent destination overall, although far behind Tenerife South.
