“In Mexico, religious tourism is an important source of revenue, attracting both domestic and international tourists. This type of tourism is drawn by the traditional religious festivals of the Mexican people, such as the celebrations and pilgrimages to visit the Virgin of Guadalupe, the Virgin of Talpa in Jalisco, the Lord of Mercy, or Saint James the Apostle in Compostela.” – Literature on the subject.
Led by Mayor Gustavo Ayón, the festivities honoring the Lord of Mercy were successfully celebrated. He was accompanied in the procession marking the start of the fair by Father Héctor Manuel Soriano Jacobo, as well as by his wife, Estefanía Carrillo, and their two daughters. Also present were council members, the city attorney, his team of directors from the various departments of the City Hall, and State Representative Rodolfo Gómez Tadeo. This took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 5:40 p.m. He was also accompanied by Admiral José Xavier Antúnez Monroy, Commander of the Naval Zone of Boca de Chila, in that municipality.
The pilgrimage and procession marking the beginning of these sworn celebrations reached the church, located next to the municipal building and near the main plaza.
THE LORD OF MERCY
This is a highly miraculous wooden sculpture of Christ, created at least 200 years ago.
Its veneration has been celebrated since 1850.
The tradition was established and sworn by the Catholic priest Calixto Aldrete.
And by Mayor Antonio Vallejo, precisely in that year of 1850, in Compostela.
Those who vowed to the Lord of Mercy would celebrate a religious and popular festival every year if He stopped the cholera epidemic that was ravaging Compostela.
The miracle happened, and for 175 years, these festivals, vowed to the Lord of Mercy, have been fulfilled completely.

AGRICULTURAL AND LIVESTOCK EXPO

The 3rd Compostela Agricultural and Livestock Expo 2025 was held.
It was very well-attended and successful.

At this event, Mayor Gustavo Ayón extended warm greetings to Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, thanking him for all the support he provided to the municipal government during the first year of his administration. He also commented on the importance of agriculture and livestock farming to Compostela.
