The speech delivered by President Claudia Sheinbaum during the “celebration of seven years of Mexico’s transformation” was described as a message that revealed the opposition’s intention to discredit the achievements of her first year in office, according to governors and legislators from the Morena party who attended the event.

On this occasion, the legislators expressed their gratitude that the president did not isolate them, as had occurred on October 6th after the celebration of her first state of the nation address. That incident was considered retaliation by the president after members of Congress turned their backs on her in March when she called for unity in the face of pressure from the United States to impose tariffs, arguing that Mexico was not doing enough to combat organized crime.

“The president is very generous now. Today we were very open, without being surrounded. She has never punished us, and I feel it was the logistics, but now she took a good look and said, ‘I don’t want them to put the legislators in that corral, so let them be free,’ and that’s what happened,” joked Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the Morena federal deputies.

The first to arrive was Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio, who arrived around 7:30 a.m. via Moneda Street, accompanied by a group of people chanting in support of the legislator with the cry of “There’s a bull!”

By 8:00 a.m., a large part of the Zócalo in Mexico City was occupied by labor unions and numerous groups of people who had been transported from various states in hundreds of buses that surrounded the historic center, all seeking to take their places.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña entered the guest area at 10:00 a.m., eager to participate in what he called a celebration.

“Seven years of the movement, great changes for the benefit of the people, a celebration,” Noroña stated.

During her speech, the head of the federal executive branch highlighted that more than 600,000 people had responded to the call. For the Undersecretary of the Interior, César Yáñez, this is a recognition of the progress made in “democracy,” and he affirmed that the continuity of the Fourth Transformation has prevented a social explosion.

“I believe that if this change hadn’t occurred, there would have already been a social explosion. If the 4T hadn’t arrived at the right time, we are doing well; fortunately, today we are in a country at peace,” César Yáñez stated.

The area in front of the stage, which was surrounded by barriers and designated for special guests such as federal and state representatives, mayors, and officials, was not yet full.

Therefore, the presidential logistics team had to approach some groups of people looking for seats and escort them to those available to avoid empty seats before the president’s arrival.

President Sheinbaum left the National Palace at 10:40 a.m., walking along a corridor set up for her to greet the attendees. The walk to the stage took approximately 20 minutes.
