The Guanajuato State Institute for Training (IECA) and BJXModa presented the results of the second edition of Moda In, an initiative aimed at strengthening the design, garment manufacturing, and supply chain ecosystem in Guanajuato through technical training, professional development, and support for entrepreneurs.
It was confirmed that more than 70 design professionals participated in this edition, receiving over 35 hours of training in pattern making, garment construction, production, and the development of creative projects. The sessions were led by IECA specialists and focused on strengthening production and entrepreneurial skills.
Salomón Ceballos Ochoa, IECA’s Director General, emphasized that the program aligns with the vision of the Guanajuato government, led by Governor Libya Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, which is focused on promoting projects that generate employment and strengthen the regional economy.
He announced that the León campus plans to create a design center with exhibition spaces for fashion, footwear, and garments, in addition to a third edition of Moda In. The goal is to expand the program’s reach and benefit 80 participants in the next edition.
The winner of this second edition of Moda In, Julia Fernández, presented the collection “Indigo 1888,” inspired by the resilience of the people of León after the 1888 flood. The collection was developed entirely with local labor and involved seamstresses, artisans, and workshops from the region.
Fernández highlighted the collaborative nature of the program and the opportunity to connect with communities like San José Iturbide and Salamanca.
Social impact is another central focus of the project. Women seamstresses and artisans trained by IECA find in Fashion In a platform to professionalize their skills, earn income, and showcase their work.
“Seeing the finished product on a runway is a very important achievement for us,” said Ana María Rodríguez, a program participant.
Paco Granados, president of BJXModa, explained that Moda In is part of the 2025 Design Route, a state strategy that promotes new business ventures, fosters self-employment, and strengthens the local supply chain. He affirmed that the program has demonstrated its ability to connect designers, stresses, artisans, and suppliers within a single creative community.
The initiative has the support of various state agencies, municipal governments, and business organizations such as Canaive Guanajuato and Ciceg, as well as universities in the region.
