The state of Guanajuato currently exports products to 135 countries, with a strong presence in the food, fashion, metalworking, and handicrafts sectors, according to Luis Rojas, director of the Foreign Trade Promotion Coordinator (COFOCE).

Rojas indicated that, while the goal for 2026 is to continue growing, the priority will be strengthening relationships with the countries that already represent the largest volume of exports for the state.

“We are going to focus on the top ten countries to which we export the most, and grow within those markets, which are obviously Japan, the United States, Canada, Guatemala, Germany, and Italy. That is where we will concentrate; more than diversification, we are going to focus on growth,” he commented. Among the municipalities that contribute most to export activity are León, Silao, Salamanca, Celaya, Irapuato, and San José Iturbide, from where products are shipped to more than 100 countries, primarily in the food sector.

“Agricultural products are back among the top 10 exports, including carrots, lettuce, fresh broccoli, frozen broccoli, and asparagus; then come grains, followed by cowboy boots, Talavera pottery, berries, and finally, we could mention some products from other sectors, such as metalworking, which is exported, but not in the same volume as the thousands of trucks that travel daily to the border with broccoli,” he stated.

The director of COFOCE noted that sectors like automotive and agribusiness have experienced significant growth in recent years, and therefore, new initiatives will be implemented to further boost their presence in international trade.
