On Thursday morning, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum was informed of the complaint regarding the placement of several checkpoints by the Attorney General’s Office in Sonora.
The checkpoint in San Luis Río Colorado was highlighted, where long lines form and reports indicate that $200 is being charged for allowing the passage of contraband. Other checkpoints exist in Caborca, Santa Ana, Hermosillo, and other locations.
The mayor pledged to investigate the matter with the head of the agency, Ernestina Godoy, to address this situation, as there have been several reports of extortion by these officers, at least in this region.
