CLOSING THE DOOR ON ABUSE: HOTELS REQUIRED TO REGISTER MINORS AND THEIR ACCOMPANISTS

2

Mexico City is taking a firm step to protect those who need it most. From now on, hotels and other lodging establishments must register children and adolescents, as well as verify the relationship and identity of the accompanying adult using official documents.

But the measure goes further.

Women who are victims of violence will be able to access lodging even without identification, and the establishment will be obligated to notify the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office to activate the corresponding protocols.

These actions seek to safeguard the well-being of minors and women, prevent serious crimes, and close loopholes for impunity, always under a human rights and legal framework.

A policy that many are already saying should be implemented throughout Mexico.
