Today, December 19, 2025, a pilot from the airline Magnicharters locked himself in the cockpit of flight 780 bound for Cancun at Mexico City International Airport (AICM), holding passengers for approximately one hour. A video circulating on social media shows the pilot explaining his reasons and apologizing to those affected, emphasizing his concern for safety. The pilot, identified as Edgar “N,” was protesting his dismissal and accused the company of owing employees more than five months’ salary, Christmas bonus, uniforms, and navigation charts, describing the situation as a “mafia” without a protective union. In the video clip, passengers can be heard empathizing with the worker due to the precarious conditions in which the company keeps a staff member essential for the operation and safety of the aircraft; however, their mood changes when he announces that, for these reasons, they would not be able to reach their destination. Passengers reported tension and filed a collective complaint for unlawful deprivation of liberty.

Although there were messages of support on social media, blaming the company owners for not paying the wages, some people labeled the worker a woke and a criminal. Authorities activated security protocols, with no reports of injuries. The airline has not issued an official statement.
