State authorities and representatives from Spain celebrated the opening of an air connection that will boost tourism, trade, and investment.
The state of Querétaro took a significant step in its integration with the European market by receiving its first direct flight from Madrid, Spain, an international connection that strengthens mobility, tourism, and the state’s economic ties.
The ceremony was held at the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport, solidifying its role as a strategic connectivity hub.
The event was led by Governor Mauricio Kuri González, accompanied by the Spanish Ambassador to Mexico, Juan Duarte Cuadrado, as well as executives from the airline Iberojet, who witnessed the official launch of this new international air route.
Kuri González emphasized that the opening of the Madrid-Querétaro flight consolidates the state as a destination with a global vision, while also strengthening the relationship with Spain, the state’s second-largest trading partner.
He emphasized that this connection not only benefits Querétaro, but also transforms the Intercontinental Airport into a gateway for the Bajío region, facilitating access for various states in central Mexico to the European market.
The governor thanked Ambassador Juan Duarte Cuadrado and the airline Iberojet for their support in bringing this project to fruition, and highlighted the historical ties between Querétaro and Spain, strengthened by language, culture, and economic cooperation.
He also recognized former Governor Ignacio Loyola Vera as a visionary driving force behind the construction of the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport, an infrastructure project that has marked a turning point in the state’s logistical and economic development.
Ambassador Juan Duarte Cuadrado emphasized Querétaro’s importance on the international stage, particularly in light of the upcoming FIFA World Cup to be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, as well as its participation in the International Tourism Fair in Madrid.
Iberojet’s Commercial Director, Mario Domínguez Vázquez, explained that the Querétaro-Madrid flight is the result of months of coordinated work with the state government, a process that began earlier this year.
With the launch of this route, Querétaro expands its international air connectivity and strengthens its position as a strategic destination for tourism, business, and investment, in coordination with the federal government.
